We get project ideas all of the time. Most of these are scrapped in our minds before they hit the drawing board. But there is one that sits with you. It doesn’t go to the trash can.
You could be out in a coffee shop or led in bed and there it is, again. Right in front of you, willing to be grabbed. The phone is next to you, with a suitable note app, to record anything you want.
Yet these words Don’t make it to the notepad. They’re never recorded for you to remember, and then one day, that project escapes your mind.
This one idea could’ve been the difference between success and failure, but we never find out until it’s too late.
Negative thought habits
This type of thought pattern has been instilled in us. We get one idea, tell our close friends and they laugh. “Good luck”, “I give you a month before you quit” or worse yet, encouragement and smiles with no empathy.
Maybe you got further than this. Maybe you managed to survive the thoughts of others and then came into contact with your own. We’re told that the only person to ever live with us 100% of the time is ourselves. No one else needs to put up with us but us all of the time.
And with this knowledge, we beat ourselves down each time.
Only getting worse once you’ve been bruised and bloodied. It seems that we cannot accept anything we do. So it is that most people turn from their dreams because it seems too lofty.
Our negative inner voice got the best of us. The bird is starving in its cage.
Okay, you’re different. You didn’t turn back, good for you. Now what obstacle is there in the way this time?
Now the idea itself is the problem… Where to begin? It’s not good enough. I’ll never make this work.
Project Paralysis
I hope this story isn’t relatable, but at the same time I do.
However, people who go through the examples above and get to the stage where their idea seems to be larger than what they can pass; are exactly ready to make it work.
The challenge that we face here is movement.
You ignored the projections of others, the self hate and bloomed it into love. Then you fleshed out the idea to a point where you can start. The project is ready to be placed into motion.
This is the largest test, not the hardest. It’s an illusion placed by God to see if you really want your goal. So how do you move an immovable mountain?
You find a creative solution. Or better yet, a simple way.
Keep your project simple, Silly.
I just called you silly. Silly silly goose.
Let’s say you’re in an avenue of trees. Behind you is your car, you just got here. And at the end is the villa you’ve rented for the well earned rest.
Which way do you go?
The answer is so obvious that you don’t need me to say.
Now, let’s place the life we dislike behind us and our goals in front. Why would we choose to stagger here? We know our goals are in front of us, and to get there we need to either crawl, walk, jog, run, sprint or fly. But still we choose to stay still or turn around.
Keep it simple.
The idea is in front of you. What steps can be taken now? Discover them and start.
Be on your own team
Who cares if the work you do now changes later on? Who cares if it’s not perfect? What is perfect anyway?
If you sit and ponder your mountain, you will get nowhere fast.
The beginning isn’t going to be glamorous, there will be mistakes, errors and problems that arise. But as we learn very early on, life is full of change.
People grow, relationships bloom or break up, music goes from start to finish. You were young, then you got old.
In life, there is constant movement. You cannot expect to be the best when you begin.
Seriously, where would the fun be if you knew how to do everything straight away? Cool, you’re a demigod, now what?
The process is what you look back on and remember. All those hours you spent toiling in the workshop, office, studio, at work, whatever. Is perceived with fondness.
You got from A to B. Now it’s B to C.
You appreciate the place where you are now exactly because you suffered to get there.
The contrast between your grind then, and the swiftness now is refreshing. It’s the reason humans live.
Imagine the look on the fire caveman’s face (first man to find fire), light, warmth and the knowledge to reproduce it. Before, he was freezing his feet off and now he can relax by the fire. So to speak.
But back to you.
Conclusion
When you take the first step and realise it’s not as hard as you imagined.
Or needs to be as perfect as you thought. A path will open. Suddenly, you find a great many ways to move the mountain. All because you started to move towards it..
Remove all negative thoughts about your project.
It’s yours. You can do whatever you want with it. But anything before then, you must make a start.
In this case, throw caution to the wind. Pick up the pencil and draw. The guitar and play. Buy the domain and create. Please insert your own situation here, no excuses.
If opportunity sees you sitting, staring at your mountain. It’ll find someone else who’s pushing, dragging, climbing or breaking it, presenting itself to them instead.
Don’t be a chronic ponderer. Send it.
