You’re lost right now and wondering if that’s a problem? As from the title I don’t think it should be.
Though, being lost is normal when you go adventuring. It happens frequently, even if you go to a friend’s house for the first time. Even when you have specific directions you still manage to lose your way.
If you’re under time, this can be very stressful. Yet have you ever been lost, knowing that you’ve got all the time in the world to find your way.
All of a sudden, you start to notice things. A silent house, a great view, a tranquil stream and beautiful creek. Had you been in a rush, these things would’ve melted into the background. But now you accept the situation, time simply doesn’t matter.
In a similar way, this analogy serves in Life. You got a specific goal, you have directions and you still can’t find your way. You can either stress out about it, or accept the situation.
And a life paradox, when you accept that it will take a while to find your way back, you stumble across the path you needed to be on. Just with more experience now.
The Daily Rush
It’s understandable to feel this way. Life nowadays is busy, fast paced and chaotic. People are coming and going, some work nights, others are on holiday, some don’t work and you’re somewhere in the middle.
You can’t even remember the morning just passed, what did you have on your toast?
In our scheduled days, we have routines and habits, so ingrained that you perform them in a flow state. That mysterious point of clarity where things are done, but you can’t seem to get there. And yet you do every morning and evening.
We’re so rushed off our feet that we wouldn’t know what to do if we had a moment to ourselves.
Which is why this feeling is recurring.
When you get unexpected time off of work with no time to plan anything, to stay busy. Is exactly when this feeling will come to you.
The routine has been broken and the opportunity to be yourself shines.
Two types of lost
There are two versions of being lost:
- When you wake up from a unconscious routine,
OR,
- When you are on your way towards a goal.
With the EXPOSÉ out of the way, let’s dive into the 3 reasons why.
No specific goal
A goal should be highly specific and defined, complete with deadlines. This way you feel a reason to get on and achieve the goal. If there is no fire under you or date to shoot for, the reason will slip you.
After this slippage occurs, it can be days or weeks before you realise that it happened. It also depends on how self aware you are. But regardless, you’ll know when a goal has been canned. Which could be:
- No drive to reach the goal.
- You forgot the Why.
- Your organisation isn’t as refined.
- You feel lost in your personal work space.
The above will hit you at any time and when they do, you’ll understand why you felt so lost in that period.
Something in your life isn’t harmonious with your vision
This relates to not having a goal with a twist.
You have the vision of your future in mind and it feels like your current trajectory will get you there. But through some means, you get hit with a feeling that it’s off. The “offness” can form into feeling lost. Once this arises it will never leave.
Rearing its ugly head like in the example in the introduction.
Yet, no amount of phones, gaming or hobbying will remove it. Assuming they aren’t non-negotiables for the vision.
Because you aren’t on the path to the vision, your soul will pick up on it. First subconsciously, then when you break routine, consciously.
The way to help yourself is analyse what is moving the needle forwards and what is not. This could be:
- A hobby from your old self
- The wrong career
- Lack of adventure
- Consuming the wrong information
- Etc.
Do an audit, to where you want to go and align everything in your current life to match the future one.
Comparing yourself with others
“Comparison is the thief of Joy”
This busy world is interconnected with everyone else through the internet. At the click of a button, you’re able to view someone in Australia from Norway. We all have extensions of ourselves in our pockets.
So, if you want something, and have enough credits for it, you can buy it and send it anywhere you want.
Just the same as you’re bombarded with other people living the “good life” online. Every photo is in a beautiful location, with happy smiles and glazed over eyes.
You see a very superficial photo. And you cannot tell the context of it.
These photos capture a snapshot of what is going on and at a specific time. No living emotions, thoughts or feelings. Just a still happy energy at the time.
It’s mentioned everywhere, but it’s just the tip of the iceberg. You may not like the look of what’s under it.
Though we still compare ourselves. They’re in a better location, with a bigger smile, better car and prettier partner.
It can lead you to the edge if you’re not careful. If thousands of people are in better places than me, then where does that leave me?
It’s human nature to want to compare to be the same. Yet you may not like who the person is behind the photo. The mixture of feelings that arises can cause the feeling of being lost. Like you’re missing out on something.
Why being lost isn’t not a problem
At the core, the three reasons above need to be changed in order for you to feel better. But that doesn’t mean they’re negative problems.
In order to get to the vision of your life, you need to clear out anything that wastes your energy or doesn;t get you closer. Then setting clear and easy goals followed by cultivating a sense of self; you don’t need anyone to dictate your inner self.
Be like the deep lake. Weather can make the surface more choppy or calm, but the further you get down, the more serene and quiet it becomes.
The above suggestions will hopefully give you a feeling of empowerment. Ultimately, the lost feeling was noted BECAUSE something was out of alignment.
Had you not been made aware you subconsciously felt lost, there would be no impetus to find your way back.
Conclusion
The person who never wanders, never gets lost.
Life is a magnificent journey. It will lead you anywhere you desire, be that in the same place you were born or following the calling you’ve always had.
Explorers and adventures get lost. It’s part of the job. Without losing your way, you won’t find the treasures that’re along it.
Just the same with you. Had you not explored what it is you really wanted. You never would have left your comfort zone and been tested.
However, being lost is a test from God to see what you’re made of.
Are you going to break under this test? Or will you show the Universe who you are and why you are here?
